Independence Apartments

Our Goal...

To work with our residents in reintegration and preparation for independent living in the community. We achieve this through providing support and counselling, promoting a positive communal-living atmosphere and providing opportunities to experience a pro-social lifestyle.

Our Program...

• Our partnership with Correctional Services of Canada allows us to provide service to adult males on conditional release in the community under the authority of the Parole Board of Canada.

• Referrals are received through Institutional and Community Parole Officers at which time, a thorough file review is conducted to determine the offenders suitability to the program.

• Referrals may also be accepted from 101st Street Apartments, where clients have the opportunity to cascade from the Enhanced Program to Independence Apartments.

• File reviews focus on the potential clients general attitude, release/future plan, completed programming and willingness and availability of treatment within the community.

• The final decision of housing placement is received from the Correctional Service of Canada’s Section Supervisor.

• All clients complete a structured orientation to assist in the successful integration into the community.

• Program operates on a structured level system allowing clients to gradually gain increased community access and leave privileges .

• Clients must be in school or employed unless deemed medically unfit.

• Clients are assigned a Caseworker to work one on one with to address high risk behaviours and focus on short and long term goals.

• Clients are encouraged to participate and volunteer in community events to reconnect with the community.

Our Services...

We offer the following services to residents:

• Shelter and a weekly grocery allowance.

• Two in house Parole Officers.

• Skilled Caseworkers work in conjunction with residents and their Case Management Team.

• Staffed 24/7 to identify, address and monitor high risk behaviors, crime cycles, develop action plans and provide ongoing support in these areas.

• On site Transition Coach that works one on one with clients to address identified barriers.

• Referrals to community programs including the EJHS Youth and Adult Support Services.

• On site weekly SMART Recovery Meeting open to residents and community members.

• Ongoing support to past residents as required.

Independence Apartments accepts referrals from institutional and community based Parole Officers. Residency is determined by conducting a formal file/review which determines the applicant's suitability for residency.

Disability Services...

Our partnership with Disability Services allows us to provide service to adult males with developmental disabilities to be a part of their communities and maximize their ability to live independently.
